My sons 6th birthday is approaching fast and he swears he wants Sonic party. I cant seem to find anything at all, not in stores or online. I have tried to tell him to pick something else but he says no. So I am trying to find the basic party supplies at least. Nothing fancy.

There are lots of terrific web pages that mention the benefits of Scentsy Flameless Candles and how to begin your own Scentsy business. They are highly informative and motivating. What I have not run across so far is an article or blog written from a husband’s view point. I would like to take a minute to share my Scentsy story (as the spouse of a Scentsy Rep), and give a little perspective into how Scentsy has enriched my life.

In March of 2005 my wife informed me that she was shown the most spectacular “candle” at a friends home and that she wanted to sign up to sell the product. At the time I was a homebuilder and working between twelve and sixteen hours per day so I did not have the time or energy necessary to fight about it or even ask her any questions about this “Scentsy thing”. I simply said “do what you think is best” and returned to looking at house plans and paying invoices. I was pretty self-absorbed and thought if Nicole wanted a new “hobby”, then more power to her. What I didn’t realize was that Nicole did not want a “hobby”; she had a specific goal and had found her means to accomplish it.

Nicole’s goal was to discover a way that would permit her to earn enough money each month to pay for our family’s health insurance bill. At the time she would need to make between four hundred to five hundred dollars each month in order to do that. Nicole considered going to work outside of the home but figured that by the time she paid childcare, gas, and taxes, she would need to work over twenty five hours a week outside the home in order to earn enough money to pay for our insurance. Gratefully Nicole wasn’t about to miss out on 25 hours a week of our childrens’ lives just to pay one bill a month. When she found Scentsy and read up on their compensation plan she recognized right away that she could make it work.

With the Scentsy compensation plan you earn twenty five percent commission on the goods you sell, plus you have the ability to earn a percentage of everything that your team members sell. Nicole originally did not plan on building a team; she only desired to do a few home gatherings a month in an effort to earn her four hundred to five hundred dollars each month in commissions. Nicole made a goal to schedule 1 party each week on Thursday nights from six to nine pm to earn her desired commission check. This meant that I needed to be sure that I was available every Thursday so I could watch the kids while she was working. 3 hours a week compared to 25 hours a week made sense to me so I was down with that.

Nicole quickly established that when she hosted a gathering she would every so often have a customer ask her if they could sign up to sell Scentsy. Before she knew it she had a small team built and she was constantly able to attain her goal of earning enough to cover our monthly insurance bill. I was still pretty much naive to the big picture of Scentsy; nevertheless, I did catch sight of the fact that Scentsy was starting to occupy more than a few hours a week of Nicole’s time. It was at this point that I recognized that her “hobby” was turning into something real.

Over the following two years Nicole began to spend more and more time on her Scentsy business and I began having to spend more time watching the kids. At the time I saw this shift of duties as a immense bother, but now looking back on it I see how it was a real blessing. Instead of “having” to take care of the kids, I was actually getting a chance to construct better relationships with them. The special time at home also made me start to appreciate Nicole for all that she had always done as a mom to keep our family functioning. Her additional workload wasn’t pushing us apart as I initially believed; it was actually driving us closer together as a family. We were actually working as a unit for the first time ever. We would organize Scentsy orders together, we would tag-team household responsibilities as a family, and we would even begin enjoying down time together. Nicole’s Scentsy commission checks began to not only pay our insurance but they were surprisingly big enough to take us on actual vacations every now and then.

Fast forward to present day: Nicole and I are working together from our house, both focusing on different portions of the Scentsy candle business. I am still so surprised how much Scentsy has altered my life. We are both still constantly on the run but we are able to choose when we are busy and when we are not. 4 years ago I seldomly made it to any of our children’s school events. Now I never miss one. My wife and I get to see each other for more than thirty minutes each day and we have even been able to splurge on some much needed family vacations. I never thought that I would be working from home or the keeper of my own schedule, but now I’m both and loving it.

To all families out there who are contemplating the decision of whether or not to get started with Scentsy; I have a few closing remarks. Realize that your Scentsy business will not be an overnight success, it takes work but it is worth it. If you treat it like a real business it will become a real business. If you treat it like a hobby it will become a hobby. Husbands if you have a cheerful attitude toward the business it will help in ways you can’t imagine. If you have a unsupportive attitude about the business it will frustrate your spouse and probably will hurt her business. You guys have to believe me on this one; I’ve been there and done that. Stay positive, work hard, and enjoy the ride. I wish everyone the best of luck and tons of success.

A deejay will probably be the first idea most brides and couples consider when looking for entertainment for their wedding. It’s also a good idea to think about hiring a band for wedding music instead. A live group will bring much more energy and ambiance to a wedding instead of DJ playing CD’s out of speakers.

A live band can bring so much more to the table and can be way more engaging than anything else. Depending on the singer or band leader, your guests might even feel as if they’re at a live concert. Bands can get people up and moving with interactive activities, especially if they play rock and roll. Your guess will really enjoy themselves.

 

Obviously certain types of music are make live bands more appropriate. For instance, if at your event the style of music is hip hop oriented, a DJ would be a good idea, but if you’re going for rock music or country music, your guests will love it.

 

Looking for a band is quite easy. Ask co-workers and friends if they know anyone or have ever hired a band before. Look at magazines, go to bridal fairs, check your yellow pages, or do a search for “band for hire” on the internet. When you do find a band that interests you, ask for a recording of one of their gigs, maybe a video or CD.

 

After deciding on a band, make sure they can provide you with a written contract. If they wont provide one or at least agree to letting you write one up, go with another band. It’s good to make sure you cover all bases on such an important day. Also, ask if they are insured. Most bands should carry a good policy to at the very least cover liability. Some hotels and venues will require entertainers have insurance, so it’s a good idea to ask.

 

A lot of bands will work with you on the kind of music you want played and give you a playlist of songs they know. It’s not always best to try and plan out each song you want them to play, but it’s okay to give a bit of guidance. You have to trust the band as professional entertainers to make good song choices to keep everyone interested.

 

Hiring a band for wedding music doesn’t have to be difficult and can be a great way to make your event one that no-one will ever forget.

While a child may come stumping on the ground, demanding a grand birthday party, an adult will quietly wish for somebody to remember it. Organize parties not only for a kid; but for the adults as well. Take the help of spreadsheets if you find arranging parties a big headache.
